His friends say that Shana turned Eugene into a new man. A better man, even. They said that when he was with Shana that he was a kinder, happier & even a more handsome man. Everyone agreed that Shana & Eugene’s relationship had changed them both. For the better. Their love had transformed them into even more incredible people than they already were. They are the best of friends…they push each other to be better & they make each day better than the last. After three years of being engaged, Shana & Eugene tied the knot in a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza. As Eugene caught the first glimpse of his beautiful bride as she walked down the aisle, his eyes filled with tears. They wrote their own vows which made their ceremony perfectly heartfelt. It was literally the perfect day for two people who are perfectly perfect together.
If you’ve read my blog before, you know how I love to talk about the details that make weddings special. I don’t think that I can adequately describe how fabulous this wedding was. Shana & Eugene’s wedding was chalk full of incredible, colorful & fun details. From the perfect Daffodil bridesmaids bouquets to the paper flower backdrop-each detail was a reflection of their fun personalities. They were married at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza which was an amazing venue-around every corner there were funky chandeliers, wallpaper with fun black & white patterns & beautiful details. I love the bright & bold color palatte that they used for the wedding-the bright yellow & the black were stunning together. My favorite detail overall was Shana’s vintage 1950′s lace wedding gown-I don’t think there are words to explain how gorgeous it was.
Shana & Eugene- I am so, soooooooooo lucky to have clients like you. To finish a wedding knowing that I’ve made two new friends is such a great feeling. I loved working with you both, getting to know your story & documenting the celebration of your love. You both deserve the best that the world has to offer-I know your lives together will be filled with overflowing love & laughter. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything…xoxo, marielle.

I don’t know what it is. But it happens every six months or so-I think back to the trip that Sam & I took to the Philippines a few years ago. He had lived there for two years in his early twenties, serving a mission for our church. He wanted to take me back & I was excited to go-soooooo excited. We spent two weeks exploring the Philippines (thank heavens Sam speaks Tagalog!), met amazing people…and it was a trip that literally changed my life. When I looked around at the people there whose living conditions were meager, I felt so humbled. And so spoiled. How could I be taking all the clean water back home for granted? How about the convenience of owning a car? How lucky I was to be able to sleep in a bed-with a PILLOW!!! The food in my cold refrigerator back home…the carpet in my bedroom…my closet full of clothes…so many things in my life had sadly been taken for granted. I looked around at the people who in comparison had nothing…and I felt like a horribly spoiled person.
So today I just want to say that I’m thankful. For everything that I have. It’s so easy for us to focus on the things that we don’t have…so let’s try to be grateful for what we do have. Take a look around your house & thank God for your blessings! I’m thankful for the problems I have-because my problems are so miniscule compared to the other problems that are going on in the world today. I’m thankful for a roof over my head, the food in my fridge, & for every.single.thing in my life. So tell me, what are YOU thankful for???
(And because I hate reading blogs if there isn’t a photograph attached, here are a few shots I took (with my point & shoot!!!) back on our trip).
A view of the streets in a city called Tarlac…

Some of the darling kids in Tarlac…don’t judge me by my shiny face-it was HOT there!!!

I was so ecstatic when my friend Heather contacted me for some fun photographs of her & her boyfriend, Jesse. I’ve known Heather since the third grade (I had some awesome poofy bangs back then) & she is the sweetest person you’ll ever meet. It was fun to see her with someone who makes her soooooo happy! She & Jesse were in town for the weekend & we met up on the beach for some fun photographs. Just because. Because they love being together. Because they love having fun together. Because they make each other happy. I loved the light outside, I loved working with Heather & Jesse & I especially LOVED that the rain held off until I pushed the shutter on the very last photograph.

My favorite…
