Mini Sessions!

08.30.2011

in Portraits

It is SO hard to believe that it is the time of year when the holidays are literally around the corner! Before you know it, you’ll be singing “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” and eating obscene amounts of Peppermint Bark (at least that’s what my plans are!) Needless to say, if you want family photos to send out with your Christmas cards, then you need to get your family photos taken!

This year I am only doing family holiday shoots on THREE days so I can spend more time with my family. Two days will be in the Bay Area & one day will be in the Reno, Nevada area. Here is all the information you need to know!

Please book yours soon-the Bay Area sessions are filling up quickly & I have a feeling that the Reno ones will be gone quickly, too!

The most gratifying part of my job is that I get to document happiness in its purest form on THE best day of people’s lives. How awesome is my job?!?!? More awesome than I can even describe. But I will try. Photographing weddings is more awesome than the day when all Easter candy goes on sale for 75% off. And that’s a pretty awesome day, my friends (at least it is for me!). I love being able to capture people’s personalities, their beauty and their happiness with my camera. Being a part of Vanessa & Neil’s wedding was amazing because every time I looked through the viewfinder, I could tell that I was capturing nothing less than pure, beautiful joy oozing from Vanessa & Neil. It was a joyful day filled with more laughter than I ever thought possible. And it was all thanks to Vanessa & Neil’s amazingly fun personalities.

When I first met with Vanessa to chat about her upcoming wedding, I knew that I would love, LOVE working with them. She & Neil both have a spark-a zest for life that is incredible. After telling me about what they had planned-an afternoon ceremony at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, a fun reception at RF80 & including their fabulous dog, Beefy in the ceremony…I knew that if they didn’t hire me that I might have gone home and cried. No joke. Luckily, I was able to document their fun, fabulous wedding filled with details that were so perfect for Vanessa & Neil. I loved Vanessa’s amazing jade necklace & her chunky bracelets, I loved their amazingly perfect cake & I loved the awesome 90′s music they played throughout their reception-they had the best music out of any reception I’ve ever been to! My two favorite parts of the day were Neil dancing with Vanessa after they walked down the aisle as husband & wife and when Neil serenaded Vanessa with “Under my Skin” at the reception. Just thinking back about their wedding literally brings a huge smile to my face. I loved every second of their day…and I loved it more than 75% off Easter candy.

Vanessa & Neil-thank you SO much for making everyone have the best time on your wedding day. You both have the ability to make everyone around you feel happy & filled with joy. It is so obvious that you make each other incredibly, blissfully happy! You are both amazing, fabulous people!  Wishing you all the joy, happiness & all the fun that this big world has to offer. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart! XOXO, marielle.

Yes, I died when I saw Vanessa’s shoes…

One of my favorites!

Their bridal party came along with us for the bride & groom photos-I loved that we had so much time for photos…and I loved how sassy this bridal party was!

I laugh every time I look at this one…

Pretty much the most amazing cake I’ve ever laid eyes on…

A special thanks to my friend Kirsten for helping me second shoot this wedding! Check out her work-she’s amazing!

29 Years Young.

08.19.2011

in Personal

Today is my 29th Birthday!!! My astrological sign is a Leo (believe me…it’s best sign EVER!). Like a true Leo, I like to talk about myself. Soooooooo, if you are bored out of your mind on this fabulous Friday, you can read 29 things about yours truly. And if you don’t read it, that’s okay-I’ll read it myself (because Leos like reading about themselves, as well!)

1. I sleep with my makeup on every night. I know it’s bad for my skin but I wake up in the morning looking halfway decent.

2. I ate a whole bag of cotton candy for lunch on Tuesday.

3. In high school I drove a Ford F-150 with a lumber rack & a tool box. It was my dad’s old work truck & let me tell you….it smelled like men’s armpits. Not cool.

4. I like driving in the slow lane…and I hate making left hand turns in the car.

5. My sisters used to raid my closet for clothes to use for Halloween costumes. Keep in mind they were taking clothes that I wore on a daily basis. And using them as COSTUMES.

6. I’ve never dyed my hair. Ever.

7. If you know me, you know that I am a bargain shopper. Last week for $50 I got a pair of shoes, three shirts, a sweater, two necklaces & a pair of earrings. And they were all cute. Bam!

8. In 8th grade, I had a Hamburger Phone. Kinda wish I still had it.

9. Butterflies terrify me. I just found out that my sister has the same problem so I’m guessing it’s genetic?!? I’m kidding.

10. I hate working out. So.Much. I own one pair of tennis shoes & they get used for about 3 minutes a YEAR. And a sports bra? Not even an item in my wardrobe.

11. One of my favorite memories of Hadley is when she walked up to the counter at Burger King & said, “Can I have a horn dog?” I literally died laughing!

12. My favorite music is Classic Rock-Aerosmith, Journey, Queen, Led Zeppelin.

13. When I go shopping, I always buy the same things: cardigans & shoes.

14. Baja Blast at Taco Bell is the best beverage. Period.

15. Dr. Pepper takes a very, very close second place to Baja Blast.

16. I got a 100% on my drivers test. AND I wore overalls so I was definitely being judged on my driving capabilities…not my outfit.

17. Cooking is my least favorite thing to do. I can think of maybe, maybe three meals I’ve made that were good.

18. I didn’t eat steak until I was 21. True story.

19. Halloween candy is already in the stores & I’m over the moon with joy!

20. My first cd that I bought was the single to The Macarena. Sad but true story.

21. One of my favorite movies growing up was Newsies! My sisters & I loved that movie so much that we named our pet goldfish, “Racetrack.”

22. I used to be on the springboard diving team in High School…even though I only learned 10 dives, my skin smelled like chlorine for four years straight.

23. Last weekend my friends & I deep fried everything imaginable from candy bars to peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. It was the grossest, most delicious thing I’ve ever witnessed.

24. If you’re still reading this, you must be super bored.

25. Our dog’s name is Brody. And no, we didn’t name him after Brody on The Hills…just to clarify.

26. I’m stopping at 26 because this post is just RIDICULOUS. 10 Bonus Points to anyone who actually read this post! :)

Here’s a photo of me at the 4th of July A’s game…for lack of a better photo of me, I’m using this one. PLEASE don’t judge me on my oversized A’s jacket…it was freezing! It’s super obvious but I was pretty excited to have my photo taken with the famous banjo guy!

Well, now you know more random facts about me than you ever wanted to! I hope everyone enjoys their weekend! I plan on celebrating my birthday the same way I celebrate every day…with a Dr.Pepper, 5 miniature candy bars & a fun day with my family. XOXO, marielle.

We grew up in a house of girls. Every Christmas morning, we would get up early, trying to peek over the banister to see our Christmas gifts. When our eyelids got too heavy to keep open, all four of us would huddle into one of our beds until the sun rose in the sky. As we would sit together, we would excitedly chat about what kinds of gifts we thought Santa had brought for us. Hours would pass & as we would sit together in our flannel pajamas, I would always think the same thing, ” I am grateful that my sisters are my best friends.” I am so lucky to have three amazing women who I have as my best friends…and every time one of my sisters gets married, I am overwhelmed with the feelings of love I have for them. Needless to say, when my sweet little sister Morgan got engaged to wonderful Dallon, I was over the moon with joy for her!

If you know Morgan & Dallon, you know that happiness is part of who they are. With everything they do, there is kindness shown. With every word spoken to each other, there is love. With every day that Morgan & Dallon have been together, there has been total & complete joy in their lives..as well as the lives of those around them. There are times in my life when I can remember feeling perfect joy. August 4th of this year was definitely one of those days. To watch my sweet little sister marry her prince charming in the beautiful Oakland LDS Temple is a memory that I will cherish forever. Morgan & Dallon radiate happiness, joy and love every day of their lives, but on their wedding day as they were pronounced husband & wife, their happiness was even more palpable as their smiles shined brighter than the sun.

Their wedding reception was amazingly gorgeous. I don’t even know if I can explain how incredible it was. Our mother is an incredible wedding coordinator who literally made their beautiful ideas come to life for their wedding. My favorite part about their wedding was the super saturated colors that decorated every place setting, tree, table & flower. Morgan’s bouquet & Dallon’s boutonniere were made from vintage brooches, dozens of brightly colored lanterns hanged above the reception, their cake was decorated with rainbow colored butterflies. A turquoise vintage hutch was used as a candy bar & stocked with cotton candy, cake bites & rock candy (it probably goes without saying that I stayed by the candy bar for most of the day…). Croquet, vintage wagons, colorful linens, my dad’s vintage corvette & watering cans filled with flowers all made the decor look incredible. Their reception was the first to be held at the Rancharrah Estate in Reno & it was an incredible venue for an incredible event. I could go on & on with how amazing their day was, but I will let the photos  speak for themselves!

Morgan & Dallon-I love you both with all my heart. Dallon, thank you for loving Morgan & making her the happiest she’s ever been. It is a joy to witness your love for each other & I know that so many amazing things are in store for the two of you. I know you are still soaking up the sun on your Hawaiian Honeymoon (lucky!!!) but I couldn’t wait to show everyone how beautiful you are together. I wish you all the love, happiness & beauty that the Lord has to offer. You both are so deserving of all of it. With all my love, XOXO, marielle.

They’re married!!!

Right after I took this photo, I totally started crying. CRYING! I literally had to stop, put my camera down & compose myself. I am just soooooo happy for Morgan that I couldn’t contain myself!

The one on the right is one of my favorite photographs ever…

Love this one!

Their wedding reception was perfect. Perfect. PERFECT!!!

Not to toot my own horn here, but I tied every bow around those chairs…and in the process I discovered my bow tying talents are pretty awesome.

Under a blanket of pine trees and a sky that was just as blue as Lake Tahoe itself, Keli & Johnny promised to love one another, laugh with each other & be each other’s best friend. After all, that’s exactly what Keli & Johnny have been doing for years…loving each other, laughing together & being each others best friends. They truly are a wonderful match & when they are together they make each other sooooooo happy. In fact, Johnny was so excited to marry his sweetheart that he actually kissed her halfway through their wedding ceremony! Their smiles were a mile wide the entire day…as they dined with their family & friends at the Chateau at Incline, one thing was clear: that their marriage would be filled with love, laughter & friendship.

Their wedding and reception was held at the Chateau at Incline & it overlooked a gorgeous golf course. Rose petals lined the aisle & soft pink accents were in all their floral arrangements. I loved the wedding cake that Johnny’s grandmother made, Keli’s sparkly silver shoes, the lovely flower poms that graced the aisle & Keli’s amazing dress! Each detail was simply elegant. I loved working with Keli & Johnny because they were easy going, up for anything & they gave me tons of time for photos! I felt very lucky to be able to photograph two people who are so happy with each other on such a lovely day!

Keli & Johnny-thank you for giving me the chance to photograph your special day-I have loved getting to know you through this process! Your positive attitudes & laughter are so infectious and I know that your marriage will be just like your relationship has been thus far…filled with love, friendship & laughter. Wishing you all the best in your new adventure together! With love, XOXO, marielle.

Their ring bearer & flower girls were DARLING!!!

Love this photo of Keli’s dad presenting Keli to Johnny-everyone was soooooooo happy at this wedding!

This is such a simple photograph but it’s my favorite!

Keli & Johnny had a photobooth at their reception-I love when couples have photo booths because everyone enjoys taking photos in them!
