Engagements

Their story began in the classroom at UVU. Morgan & Dallon found themselves enrolled in an Ethics and Values class, a required class that neither of them had any desire to take. At the beginning of the class, the teacher mentioned how it was required that each student participate in 20 hours of service, and that if we weren’t interested in the service, that they should drop the class. Morgan toyed with the idea of dropping the class because she simply wasn’t interested in the 20 hour service project. After thinking it over, it was set in her mind that she would drop the class immediately. pronto. right away.

But.

But….

But then her plans instantly changed the second the classroom door swung open & Dallon walked in. Suddenly she was certain that she would NOT mind doing the service project, especially since it gave her the possibility of being in class with the most handsome man she’d ever laid eyes on. When it was time for the class service projects to start, Morgan & Dallon were put in the same group. They began to get to know each other quickly-they had a lot in common & instantly hit it off. After a date on Halloween, they realized something so important: that they could be 100% themselves around each other. They began hanging out together, having fun together & falling in love. Their love story has evolved over the space of a year and a half, and it is something that is truly beautiful to see. A few months ago, Dallon secretly flew to Nevada to ask my father’s permission to marry Morgan, swept her off her feet, decorated her room with balloons & asked her to be his wife. In a nutshell, it’s the best love story you’ve ever heard.

Morgan is my youngest sister & it is wonderful to see her so in love!!! I’ve photographed each of my three sister’s engagements & weddings and it is such a joy for me to capture these exciting moments in the lives of my favorite people on earth. When they got engaged, we started thinking of fun ideas for their photos. We came up with some awesome locations that included a beautiful field, a carnival, a vintage airplane & an abandoned barn. Over a two day engagement session with 1200+ photos taken, I was finally able to narrow them down to some of my favorites. And I totally won’t lie-I actually cried when I was editing these photos. It’s crazy to think that my baby sister is so grown up, so beautiful & so in love. What a joy in my life it was to capture this exciting time in their lives! They are getting married in August at the Oakland LDS Temple & I am so excited!  Although I shoot some amazing weddings, I know that my little sister’s wedding is going to be my favorite wedding of the year. Hands down. Now on to the photographs!

One of my favorites…

While we were driving around, we saw an airplane hangar with actual war planes from the 1950′s. The guys inside were so kind that they let us use the planes for the photos-can you say awesome!?!?

Love how these ones with the bubbles turned out!

We found an awesome carnival & I am obsessed with how fabulous the carnival photos are!!!

It happened on a rowboat in England. As Brian & Anjali vacationed in Europe with Brian’s family, he knew it would be the perfect time to propose to his sweet girlfriend. He had brought the diamond ring with him on their trip & he knew that he was going to propose. As they went on a boat ride together, Brian took a knee & asked Anjali to be his wife. Surprised, shocked & beyond excited, she said yes! The royals have nothing on Brian’s smooth moves!

Brian & Anjali had been together since they attended U.C Davis-they lived in the dorms in a large group. They always had fun together & after a one-on-one date, they realized that there was simply something there. Maybe it was the fact that they had so much fun together. Maybe it was the fact that they were such good friends. Maybe it was because they were meant to end up together. Whatever the reason, one thing is certain-that they make each other soooooo ridiculously happy. When you talk to Brian & Anjali, their zest for life & their love for each other is palpable. They live each moment to the fullest & are simply a blast to be around.

They borrowed a bicycle built for two for their session & I loved how the photos turned out with the bike! It added such a fun element to the photos. We shot the photos on the campus where their story began-I can’t wait for their wedding next month!

If you’ve ever been to the UC Davis campus, you’ve seen the Egg Heads that decorate the campus…I loved having them in a few of the photographs…

They are THE perfect fit…and it’s obvious in more than one way. It’s obvious because of their shared interests…their love of 80′s music…bookstores…traveling…It’s obvious in the way that Eric’s dimples dig into his cheeks when Tori laughs. It’s obvious in the way that Tori just can’t take her eyes off of Eric. It’s obvious that they are the perfect fit because after seven years of being together, you can see that there truly is no one else they’d rather be with than each other. They met in High School & now after years of dating they are getting married (as Tori says, “finally!!!”).

We met up in San Francisco for their engagements-Tori had told me that they loved bookstores & libraries so we headed to the gorgeous San Francisco library. I loved shooting in the library because of the lighting & the awesome colors…but let’s just say that whispering is NOT my forte!!! We ended up on the beach & had a fabulous, fabulous time.

Tori & Eric-you guys are such a fun & darling couple! Wishing you all the happiness you deserve! XOXO, marielle.

Loooooooooooved their matching Converse…

It was high school. They were on the swim team & at first they didn’t like each other. After all, Vanessa was stubborn & Silvio was bossy (their words-not mine!!). But…BUT in the summer of 1998, things changed. It was at the local YMCA where they re-connected as they worked as a swim teacher & a lifeguard. From there, they realized that when they were together, life was awesome. Fun. And that when they were together life was the best it could possibly be. Over time, they became the sweetest couple & the best of friends. They love traveling, cooking & just.being.together.

One evening as they were getting ready to take a walk, Silvio surprised Vanessa with a gorgeous ring & asked her to be his wife. She said yes!!! They are planning a wedding on the beach in September (along with a clam bake!). I am sooooooooooo excited to be able to photograph their wedding.

I knew the first time I met them that we would have a great time during their engagements. But oh.my.goodness. I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun we had! It’s been a long time since I’ve laughed that hard! We had a reallllly fun time hanging out by the De Young Museum & the Botanical Gardens. It seemed like the perfect light was everywhere we went & the weather was fabulous! I had the hardest time narrowing down their photos to my favorites because I love them all! I can’t wait for their wedding in September!!! If their wedding is anything like the two of them are, I’m positive that it will be filled with fun & lots of laughter.

I feel like every single one of these photographs is such a real reflection of just how fun Vanessa & Silvio are…

Love this one. Sooooooooooo much.

I was so ecstatic when my friend Heather contacted me for some fun photographs of her & her boyfriend, Jesse. I’ve known Heather since the third grade (I had some awesome poofy bangs back then) & she is the sweetest person you’ll ever meet. It was fun to see her with someone who makes her soooooo happy! She & Jesse were in town for the weekend & we met up on the beach for some fun photographs. Just because. Because they love being together. Because they love having fun together. Because they make each other happy. I loved the light outside, I loved working with Heather & Jesse & I especially LOVED that the rain held off until I pushed the shutter on the very last photograph.

My favorite…
